Cost of Study and Living in Belize

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee varies depending on the educational level, course of study and status of student whether Belizean; or international students from developing countries or developed countries. A tuition fee of about $700 per semester for the Belizeans, $1300 for developing country students, and $2000 for developed country students. 

Accommodation

In Belize, there are many accommodation options available for students: 

Halls of residence/dormitory: This includes kitchen area, bedroom, washroom, and all the other needed facilities. 

Host-family stays: Students can stay with the Belizean family and learn know the country’s culture and language. 

Renting an apartment/house: You can stay alone or share the apartment. Single or double rooms are available. The apartments are generally furnished with kitchen, bathroom and other necessary amenities. 

Living Expenses

Estimated Accommodation Costs:

The dormitories private room can cost around $175, shared room costs ranges between $60 and $130 depending 
on the sharing capacity.

Host Families:  The cost ranges from $225.00 to $300.00 inclusive of meals and other facilities.

Apartment/house: It can cost between $225.00 and $550.00.  The costs of the apartment vary depending on the number of rooms, amenities, and location.

For Utilities

You can expect to pay: 
  • Electricity: $80
  • Water: $25
  • Butane gas (for cooking and bathing): $25
  • Internet with landline: $80 ($500 deposit plus installation):
  • Groceries: $150 to $300
  • Entertainment (dining out and other recreational activities): $200 to $400

Transportation

In Belize, there are many travel options available to students. You can get around the country through public buses; cars, rental cares, etc. Public transport is easy and comfortable in order to get around the country. 

Travelling In and Around by Public Buses

Public buses are the main mode of transportation in Belize. In the larger towns and cities, such as Belmopan or Belize City, bus terminals are available, while in smaller areas, bus stops are there. 
Buses in Belize are categorized as follows:
  • Regular runs: These have normal prices
  • Express runs: These are faster and charge high

Getting Around by Car and Motorcycle

You can hire a car or bike to travel around Belize. Renter must be 25 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. In Belize, there are many care rental companies. 

Getting Around by Bicycle

Cycling is also one of the travel options that once can consider. The roadway is well developed, thus making this option pleasant.
