The Statutory Bodies and Education Institutions of Belize

Situated at the north-eastern coast in Central America, Belize is a small country of 22,966 sq.km, with a population of 334,297 according to the July 2013 estimate. The country shares its borders with Mexico at North, Guatemala at South and West, and the Caribbean Sea at East. The country has the lowest population density in the whole of Central America.

Education is accomplished by a three tier system. The first 8 years of education comprises of the 2 years infant and 6 years of primary education. The next 4 years consists of the secondary education, and next follows higher education in junior colleges and universities. The main university of the country is the University of Belize. All educational institutions listed above are approved by the government, and some of them are affiliated by the church. Education is compulsory till the age of 14, but this rule is not strictly taken in the country. All these bodies together with the government statutory bodies comprises of the important infrastructure of the country.
